Ida Jo is a singer, violinist and writer who uses music and creativity to promote wellness. Born and raised in the Midwest, she builds on a long history of blending rock, folk and gospel music. Her music is expressive and groove-oriented, and her songs are carefully crafted to get at the heart of the humanity that connects us all. The AV Club has praised her "innovative violin work and her soulful vocals."
A violinist from a young age, she combines a folk fiddle style called "chopping" with extensive classical training, and is one of only a handful of violinists in the world to play in that style. She was named WAMI Female Vocalist of the Year in 2013 and MAMA Folk/Americana Performer of the Year in 2013 and 2014. She has performed for Wanderlust and Kripalu and at events such as Yoga Reaches Out, has been published in the Huffington Post, and has presented at TEDx.
Ida Jo is also a Yoga Acharya (Master of Yoga), with a Masters Degree with Distinction from SOAS University of London in Traditions of Yoga and Meditation. She partners with Ghosh's Yoga College of Kolkata, India, and travels to teach workshops and trainings. She has written and published several books on the Ghosh Yoga tradition, edited two historic manuscripts, and is researching women of yoga in Bengal.
Her album Bones, recorded in Madison, Wisconsin at Blast House Studios and produced by Emmy award winning composer Scott Lamps, takes its title from the myth of bone woman. She performs and teaches alongside Scott Lamps.
