Spiritual Retreat
Description
This non-duality retreat brings Rupert Spira to the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York, for a weekend of guided meditation and open conversation. It is a spiritual retreat for anyone curious about the nature of experience, whether you are new to non-duality or already drawn to its teachings and want to spend time with a like-minded community. No religious or spiritual affiliation is required.
What to Expect
The weekend is experiential rather than academic. Guided meditations alternate with open dialogue, so the teaching is something you test against your own direct experience instead of only hearing about it. Together the group explores the perennial, nondual understanding: not just philosophically, but in the felt reality of ordinary awareness.
Three threads run through the days. You examine the essential nature of your experience. You look at what sits beneath love, peace and happiness, the things around which most of our lives revolve. And you do this in a setting that is welcoming and supportive, with room to rest.
The schedule leaves space on purpose. Quiet moments, conversation over the course of the weekend and simple time with other participants give insight room to arrive on its own, without being pushed. It is a chance to slow down, reflect and explore alongside others.
About Rupert Spira
Rupert Spira is a meditation teacher whose work centers on Advaita Vedanta, the nondual philosophy rooted in Indian classical thought, together with the integration of Sufi devotional practice. Born in London, he encountered the poetry of Rumi in 1975, at the age of fifteen, and it opened the door to the mystical and contemplative traditions he has explored for some five decades.
Shortly afterward he learned the Mevlevi Turning at Colet House in London, a Sufi practice that combines movement, prayer and meditation. He then met Dr. Francis Roles, a student of Shantananda Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of the North of India. His approach brings together two lineages: the direct-path inquiry of Advaita and the embodied, heart-centered practice of Sufism, particularly the Mevlevi order founded by followers of Rumi.
The Setting
The retreat takes place at the Omega Institute, 150 Lake Drive, in Rhinebeck, New York. Participants can choose between two ways of attending. You may stay on the Omega campus and remain on site throughout the weekend, or you may come as a commuter, attending without overnight lodging.
Before You Go
This retreat is open to all levels. There are no prerequisites and no prior practice is needed, only an interest in looking closely at your own experience. Cost and registration are handled through the Omega Institute, and questions about a booking can be directed to the Institute itself.
