Emily Horn is a Certified Mindfulness Teacher (CMT-P) through the International Mindfulness Teachers Association and an authorized Insight Meditation teacher. Spirit Rock Meditation Center, Insight Meditation Society and InsightLA have empowered her to teach meditation, Dharma and long residential retreats. Wired magazine called her a "power player of the mindfulness movement."
Her work is shaped by her studies at Naropa University and by more than a year of intensive Insight Meditation retreats in her 20s, mentored by Jack Kornfield, Trudy Goodman and others. For almost two decades she has taught retreats around the world and mentored and trained hundreds of mindfulness teachers. For more than seven years she has been a senior mentor in the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program led by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. Her teaching and writing have appeared in 10% Happier, Boston Children's Hospital's Comfort Ability Project, Buddhist Geeks, and the mindfulness apps Brightmind and Buddhify.
Her earlier retreat descriptions call her a contemplative teacher with fierce compassion. Her integrative style is influenced by mindfulness meditation and centers on how contemplation, personal unfolding and daily life are woven together. Her teaching, often co-led with her husband Vincent Horn, draws on concentration, investigation, meditative inquiry, choiceless awareness and heart-based practice. She has also worked in contemplative education settings including Naropa University, InsightLA and Sounds True, and she is a co-founder of Meditate.io. With Vincent she co-created the Buddhist Geeks conferences and retreats. With her sister, Dr. Kirsten West, she co-founded Mindful Wellness Space, a collaborative healing environment that brings together meditation, functional medicine, chiropractic care, acupuncture and other restorative modalities.
Emily was born and raised in the Southern Appalachian region. She now lives in Swannanoa, North Carolina, in the Blue Ridge Mountains, with Vincent and their son, Zander. Raised Episcopalian and deeply connected to Buddhist wisdom, she blends ancient roots with modern science. For her, living mindfully means learning to dance with the full range of human experience, from transcendence to dirty dishes, and from solitary practice to deepening relationships.
